Mavic R-SYS recall

Publié le par Adrien

The famous french wheel manufacturer recalls every R-SYS front wheels. The fragility of the spokes and the TraComp system make this wheel particularly dangerous. Indeed it collapses completely as something hits a spoke. Mavic plays safety here and will replace every spokes with a stronger and thicker model.
The rear wheel is not recalled because the drive side spokes are made out of Zicral, a resistant aluminium. In case of hit on a rear carbon spoke, the rear wheel will keep its integrity.
What seems very bothering for the cyclist who only has a single wheelset, is finally a good deal because Mavic will give every R-SYS user a free Aksium wheelset in the mean time, and forever...!

MAVIC R-SYS FRONT WHEEL RECALL

As part of its ongoing commitment to customer safety and satisfaction, Mavic has today announced a voluntary recall of its R-SYS front wheels as a precautionary safety measure.

Mavic has identified that the carbon tubular spokes of the R-SYS front wheel may break during use in certain circumstances and causing the rider to lose control and possibly fall, potentially sustaining injury.
All models of Mavic R-SYS front wheels are concerned (R-SYS, R-SYS test, R-SYS Premium), whether purchased separately or as part of a bicycle. The wheels must no longer be used.

Consumers should immediately return their front wheel to a Mavic dealer; a new upgraded R-SYS front wheel will be delivered free of charge.
This exchange will start from 31st of March 2009. Until this date, to facilitate the continued use of the bicycle, Mavic will offer a set of Aksium wheel that customers will keep after they have received the replacement R-SYS front wheel.
Mavic has a history of many cycling innovations on the market. This permanent search for improved performance will continue to lead Mavic towards design and technological advancements. However, quality and reliability are major values that have made Mavic the leader in bicycle wheels, and Mavic desires to make a quality and reliability upgrade to the R-SYS wheel through this voluntary recall.

Bernard Millaud, Mavic Managing Director, said: “Mavic is undertaking this voluntary, precautionary recall program because of our uncompromising commitment to customer safety and satisfaction. Our customers rightly expect our products to be of the very highest quality, and Mavic will continue to meet that expectation.”
